As we walked into the @ Beach Bar & Restaurant we sensed that a magical evening was ahead of us. The restaurant, located inside the Kata Beach Resort & Spa and directly on the beachfront, has a beautiful, natural ambiance with just the right touches of décor and lights. We arrived in time for sunset and started the evening with a couple of refreshing cocktails while soaking in the beach and sunset views and enjoying the gentle breeze. Talk about getting lost in the moment... The restaurant´s setting is perfect for both romantic occasions and fun nights out with family and friends.

The menu was promising and extensive so we battled our dilemmas by asking the restaurant´s helpful staff for recommendations. Our meal started with Hokkaido Scallops, seared jumbo scallops served with tomato and mango salsa. The scallops were fresh and light with a bit of a sweet finish and overall a really great combination of flavours. Next we tried Tropical Arugula Salad that impressed us with its freshness and originality. The arugula based salad was served with delicious smoked salmon and feta cheese and a light, tasty dressing that was spruced up with red onions. If you´re holidaying in Phuket you may find all this excitement over a salad strange, yet good western salads are a rare commodity to people who live here - and this one rightly deserves the accolade.

Resting between the courses, we chose the wine for our entrées and chatted to the sound of crashing waves. The arrival of our main course marked the beginning of a true feast: we shared White Sea Bass, grilled sea bass that came with a combination of sauces, including white wine, wasabi and fresh turmeric saffron sauce, and Lamb Shank. The fish was as fresh as it should be and the lamb slow-cooked to perfection; both were accompanied by melt-in-the-mouth mashed potatoes.

More than satisfied with our main courses, we searched the dessert menu for something light - and settled on ice-cream: home-made Cooler Cassata Breeze, with its combination of different flavours sounded too tempting to pass, but we also wanted to try some regular ice-cream on the side. The Cassata turned out to be fruity and cool and the coconut and chocolate ice-cream scoops were super tasty and super-sized too!

Having enjoyed perfectly attentive yet seamless service, and completely full and relaxed, we allowed the restaurant´s atmosphere to enchant us a little longer. We learned that @ Beach Bar & Restaurant in Kata is open all day long, so it´s the perfect place for a casual seaside lunch as well. Since this time we were only able to try a fraction of the offerings on the menu - its picture-packed sections include Italian dishes such as pizzas and pastas, various seafood and imported steaks, and of course Thai cuisine - we left absolutely certain that we´ll be coming back to this beach gem for more.
