Kata Rocks Wins \'Phuket\'s Best Burger\' Competition

Chef Pons' innovative 'OHLA' Burger added to luxury resort's menu by popular demand

PHUKET, 22 March, 2016 – Kata Rocks' culinary team won top honours at the recent 'Phuket's Best Burger' competition, adding to the luxury resort's impressive cache of local and international awards.

Executive Chef Laia Pons' creation, the sure-to-be-iconic 'OHLA' burger, ingeniously combined Hispanic and French gourmet condiments in equal measure to win first place from judges and customers at the event.

Her 'OHLA' burger consists of 80% Australian beef, 20% minced pork belly, Spanish Iberico ham, French brie cheese, extra virgin olive oil, homemade barbecue mayonnaise all piled high on a fresh house-baked hamburger bun.

Phuket's best-of-the-best restaurateurs and chefs competed in the island's burger battle on Saturday, March 19 hosted by the Royal Phuket Marina, to determine whose burger reigns supreme.

Already considered the island's premier gourmet food competition, 'Phuket's Best Burger' lived up to its name with Kata Rocks proud to win burger bragging rights until the next competition in 2017.

Challenging the island's best chefs to show their gourmet skills, the competition was open to restaurants, hotels and resorts on Phuket, and burgers had to be made and cooked live onsite.

A team of experts then blind judged all entries plus a public vote also contributed to the final tally. Kata Rocks was crowned king that night, taking home the coveted trophy in addition to an all-bells-and-whistles barbecue from the BBQ Shop.

For those not attending this year's event in person Kata Rocks has good news: Chef Pons intends to make her 'OHLA' burger a menu staple at Phuket's ultimate ocean view restaurant.
