Phuket, Thailand - Thanyapura’s King of the Mountain was successfully held on Sunday, September 4, 2016, chaired by Virat Patee, Director of Sports Authority of Thailand, Phuket Office; Anoma Vongyai, Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand, Phuket Office; and Sirawee Waloh, Director of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Phuket Office with a large number of 610 attendees. The trail run offered each runner with a choice of three distances; 4 kilometres fun run, 8 kilometres and 15 kilometres along the steep and slippery muddy slopes, and beautiful natural waterfalls of Khao Phra Theao national park.
The winners of the 8 kilometres distance were Matapan Yossatiantanakul who made his way to the finish line within 00:54:56 hr., followed by Somrit Jantarapratin, and Sompit Peiwpong. The first woman to reach the finish line in this category was Tassanee Prabtuk, in 01:22:09 hr.
Meanwhile, the 15 kilometres trail run had its King and its Queen; David Escolar Ballesteros and Pemerin Aurama who made the long race in 01:20:13 and 01:43:02 respectively. The first male and female winners of the 15 kilometres distance were rewarded 5,000THB. The top three winners of the distance were David Escolar Ballesteros, Mikael Niva, and Songkrod Jeiaranaisin.
All participating runners went back home with not only the souvenir of an amazing trail but also a commemorative medal of the event.
This fantastic trail run race would not have happened without the great support of the main sponsors including Live 89.5, Phuket Ads, and Queen Drinking Water. Bangkok Hospital was also present to offer support and first emergency aid if necessary.
This year’s race was the second edition of the trail, which is set to happen again next year on September 3, 2017. With its unique setting, stunning views over the national park and its challenging path, the King of the Mountain is quickly gaining momentum as one of the trails experienced and amateur runners alike are happy to put on their bucket list.
