Metzo's at Outrigger in Phuket: design award for ‘Best Restaurant within a Hotel’ globally

Phuket, Thailand – Metzo’s Bistro & Bar, located at the Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach Resort in Thailand, won the prestigious “Best Restaurant Within a Hotel” global award at the International Hotel and Property Awards 2016.

Sophie Bughin, Associate and Design Director at Metzo’s Bangkok-based design team, Santhaya & Associates, accepted the award at a glamorous awards ceremony in Venice, Italy on 16 September. The contemporary, high-street bar bistro beat out entries from the world's top architects, designers and hospitality operators—including restaurants in hotel brands such as Hilton, InterContinental, Shangri-la, Le Meridien, and others.

Metzo’s opened in October 2015 and was designed with a ‘lived in,’ slightly industrial eclectic aesthetic with subtle Moorish motifs.

“Santhaya & Associates conceived a wonderfully relaxed and unpretentious environment where people can socialise comfortably and feel engaged by both the staff and the Mediterranean food,” said Peter Skinner, VP Design and Projects for Outrigger Resorts.

The wine bar in Metzo’s was envisaged as the casual dining and drinking focus for the resort, centred on lively shared long tables. The heart of Metzo’s is the ‘long bar’ presenting a range of daily hot and cold tapas, quality wines, craft beers and Metzo’s cocktails.

“The bistro allows guests to enjoy more family orientated dining slightly away from the bar, but within the casual, sociable ambience that permeates the entire space,” said Ms Bughin of Santhaya. “Bi-fold doors allow the space to flow out to the alfresco dining area by the pool. The ambience, and the trend toward casual high-end dining make Metzo’s an ideal place for wine pairing and degustation evenings,” she added.

Sunday brunch at Metzo’s features live music and is a popular hangout for local residents as well as hotel guests.
