Phuket, Thailnd - A moving evening of classical music is promised on Monday 23rd January 2017, as Mom Tri's Villa Royale hosts its annual concert and Baan Kata Arts Fest which this year is being held in remembrance of His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and his love of music and arts.
The highlight of the evening will be "Requiem for Violin & Magnetic Tape", an incredible musical composition for violin and ambient tape loops by Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, an American multi-instrumentalist, member of several bands and co-founder of the Root Strata record label. The requiem is looped and layered with parts set against each other in opposing tiers.
The requiem was commissioned by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art for SFMOMA Future Countdown Live in 2013.
Mom Tri's Villa Royale is excited to welcome the Pro Musica Ensemble founded by H.E. Admiral M.L. Usni Pramoj, Privy Councillor and renowned musician, will perform the evening concert at our Music Room in Mom Tri's Villa Royale, Kata Noi Beach.
Violinist Tasana Nagavajara studied at the prestigious Menuhin Academy in Switzerland and is widely acclaimed as one of Southeast Asia's leading maestros.
Flautist Worapon Kanweerayothin teaches the instrument at Thailand's prestigious Silpakorn University and is the principal flautist of the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra.
Ekachai Jearakul, the first Thai classical guitarist to attract worldwide recognition with his inspiration to study since the age of 13 while listening to the Late King's composition, "H.M. Blues".
Beside the Requiem, the full musical programme will include:
