Phuket, Thailand, February 2017 - The highly anticipated Laguna Phuket Food & Music Festival will take place on Friday, 3 March 2017 with a very special charity dinner prepared by Chef Tammasak Chootong at Banyan Tree Phuket's renowned Saffron restaurant. Mr. Tammasak is a master chef at Suay Restaurant by Positive Kitchen, and will make a guest appearance at Saffron to benefit needy children in a local Orphanages.
The 5-course 'Pop-Up Gourmet Dinner' will be accompanied by a selection of fine wine and live entertainment by the Phuket Academy of Performing Arts, further establishing Phuket Province's status as a leading 'City of Gastronomy', as honored by UNESCO. Chef Tammasak's superb culinary skills have earned him recognition as Iron Chef Thailand in 2015, and his upcoming Thai set dinner at Saffron will feature a selection of sensational dishes to showcase his creativity.
Mr. Tammasak's career as a world-class chef began over 20 years ago, as he honed his modern culinary techniques in Michelin-starred Top Air restaurant in Stuttgart. His journey as a chef has brought him exciting opportunities aboard cruise ships and hotel restaurants before joining Banyan Tree in 2007. His expertise was instrumental in helping Banyan Tree implement its signature 'Saffron' Thai restaurant concept in 10 Banyan Tree properties over the years. In 2010, Chef Tammasak opened Suay Restaurant in Phuket to much fanfare, excellent reviews, and a series of culinary awards. His return to Banyan Tree Phuket for the Laguna Phuket Food & Music Festival has stirred greater interest surrounding the festivities.
The 3-day Food & Music celebration was announced at a press conference on 9 February and attended by several prominent island officials, including Dr. Kosol Taengutai (Deputy Mayor of Phuket City Municipality) and Ms. Siwaporn Chuasawat (Vice Governor of Phuket), each of whom spoke favourably of the event. The festivals' twin objectives of "Nourishing Hearts, Inspiring Dreams" beautifully combines Thai music, culture and cuisine with the noble goal of launching and supporting the Children First Fund, which is tasked with caring for children in Phuket orphanages.
The weekend event also coincides with Laguna Phuket's 30th anniversary. Continuing from the charity dinner on 3 March, the following day will observe a vibrant festival at Canal Village, featuring culinary demonstrations by international celebrity chef Audra Morrice, a myriad of food booths, a beer garden and live musical performances.
A ticket for entry is priced at THB 4000 net for Banyan Tree Phuket's March 3rd Pop-Up Gourmet Dinner at Saffron restaurant.
