Trainee chefs battle it out in hotel cook-off

March 31, 2017 Phuket, Thailand: JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa's recently hosted the JW Marriott Phuket Trainee Chef's Cooking Battle for its culinary interns to showcase their kitchen skill to the text with an 'Iron Chef' style competition on March 28, 2017 at Marriott Café.

Eleven team of talented young JW Marriott Phuket Trainee chefs went head-to-head in a hotel's Kitchen cook-off. The 22 contestants from six universities among Rangsit University, Mahasarakham University, Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University, Phuket Rajabhat University, Dusit Thani College and International Hotel and Tourism Industry Management School from around Thailand battled it out after spending the past three up to six months learning the culinary tips and technique in the hospitality business.

Every young chef was in action at chef's cooking stations with fully equipped, ingredients, herbs, spices, all sources for their efforts in the kitchen at Marriott Café. The key and secret main ingredients were set with a core focus on sustainability which were "Sarasin Prawns and Banzan Farm's Organic Chickens" announced by Executive Chef Dietmar Spitzer. It was a fun-filled culinary challenge that the trainee chefs had an hour to create 2 dishes, prepare, cook and present to the judge for testing their creative dishes afterwards.

The 1st place winning dishes are 'Easter Egg' and 'Poached Sarasin Prawn with spicy sauce', created by 'Tag Team' culinary interns Ms. Phongphen Srisuksai from Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University teamed up with Mr. Pongpon Soonthonthip from Dusit Thani College

Little Chef Team: Dishes are 'Stuffed Chicken Roll' and Sarasin Prawn with Pomelo Spicy Salad, c reated by Ms. Nuttiwan Suren from Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University and Mr. Akwijit Chooban from Dusit Thani College

MD Café Team: Dishes are Sarasin Prawn with Tom Yum Sauce and Baked Chicken with Thai herbs and Northeastern style sauce, created by Mr. Jirawat Phoomsakoo from International Hotel and Tourism Industry Management School and Ms. Prakaikran Kaewdee from Mahasarakham University

Omega 3 Team: Dishes are 'Stir-fried Sarasin Prawn with prawn jus sauce and Stuffed Chicken with mixed dried fruits', created by Mr. Jirasak Phosarasaeng from International Hotel and Tourism Industry Management School and Ms. Nuntinee Kanbumroong from mahasarakham University

The first and second place winning teams received the trophy and prizes as the award and recognition from JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa.

It was judged by our guests of honor and hotel executive management team Mr. Saranyou Sema, Chief of Phuket Governor Office Mrs. Jutarrat Ninlahut, Assistant Director of The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Phuket office Mr. Jason Beavan, General Manager, The Class Act Media Co, Ltd Mr. Oriol Montal, General Manager, Executive Chef Dietmar Spitzer and Ms. Khanittanee Kanthanit, Director of Human Resources, JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa

Mr. Oriol Montal, General Manager, said: "We organized this culinary challenge to encourage our 30 culinary interns who have been trained under the kitchen department to have their first real stage to show their creativity, work as team, award and recognition. They have done a great job and we are extremely proud of them. The future of the Thailand and the world is in those young, dynamic trainee chef hands. Our team will always ensure that they definitely learn, be guided, well trained, develop their culinary skill by our experience associates during their time with us. They could become our future employees and successful chefs".
