Phuket, Thailand, 27 June 2017 - On Monday, 5 June 2017, Mövenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach Phuket received the coveted Environment Certification Award from Phuket’s governor, K. Norraphat Plodthong, during the World Environment Day celebration at Limelight Avenue Phuket.
The event, which aimed at encouraging locals and tourists to recycle waste and learn about ecology in general, was attended by hundreds of visitors, who enjoyed watching the shows created by several schools of the island.
"We are extremely proud to receive such recognition," said K. Treepop Paojeen, Director of Engineering, who received the certificate on behalf of the resort. "We work hard to ensure high standards of sustainable practices by involving our staff, and our guests on how to preserve the environment in the best possible way."
The resort, which celebrated its 11th anniversary on 20 June 2017, has been certified by Green Globe for over five years, recently achieving a Gold Green Globe status.
"The resort is committed to promoting sustainability, as reflected in our management principles and daily practices. It is our goal to reduce negative environmental impact at all levels, and encourage our partners, guests and staff to do the same," said Mr. Nick Porter, General Manager.
In February this year, thanks to a partnership with the National Park Office in Phuket, the resort planted a rare breed of white palm trees in its garden, found only in Phuket and known to be on the verge of extinction. These trees are now part of the resort’s Eco-Trail project, which highlights different varieties of flowers and plants available throughout the garden for guests to see.
