On 28 July 2017, the façade plaza in front of the hospital building was crammed with BDMS group management, local dignitaries, and members of the press and media. They were invited to witness one of the hospital's most momentous moments when Dr. Prasert Prasarttong-Osoth, Group Chief Executive Officer, Bangkok Dusit Medical Services PLC (BDMS), came to preside over the Garuda sculpture mounting ceremony. Upon a royal bestowal from the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej (King Rama IX), the Garuda emblem cannot but foster growing pride among hospital management and personnel as well as ensure righteousness and integrity in their operations as always.
The Garuda emblem symbolizes kingship in Thailand as shown in royal seals over the course of Thai monarchy. It can be traced back to the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), when the use of Garuda emblem was initially granted to private entities as a royal warrant for their good service to the monarchy. At a later time, such permission to use and display the Garuda emblem has been seen across a wider range of businesses and organizations all over the country. Receiving the Royal warrant is considered a great honor and a mark of distinction for any Thai company.
Bangkok Hospital Phuket's edition of the Garuda emblem is 5 meters in width, 4.5 meters in height, and 700 kilograms in weight. It is enshrined atop the hospital's building flaunting the iconic Sino-colonial façade.
