Phuket, Thailand - 30 October 2018: In celebration of the one-year anniversary of our sustainability and social impact platform, Marriott International Serve 360: Doing Good in Every Direction, which seeks to build upon the company's decades-long history of support for its communities and the environment. To mark the occasion, JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa organized the hands-on activity “The Beach Cabbage Planting”, at the Mai Khao Beach in this afternoon.
Since the founding in 1927, Marriott International has had a deep commitment to taking care of the communities where we do business. The Serve 360 platform was launched to deepen our commitments in driving our sustainability and social good agenda through a series of next generation goals that the company aims to meet by 2025. Marriott International is delighted to share the impressive progress and result throughout the year; Nurture our World: The associates contribute 2.5 Million volunteer hours to support our communities around the global; Sustain Responsible Operations: 1 billion plastic straws a year eliminate from all hotels; Empower Through Opportunity: $ 3.5 Million+ invested in partnership to develop skill and opportunity; Welcome All and Advance Human Rights: 450,000+ associates trained in human trafficking awareness training.
Mr. Matthias Y. Sutter, General Manager of JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa took this opportunity to engage with 900 associates by highlighting some of the great work, results achieved and show progress towards our 2025 goals. At the property level, JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa has contributed 2,749 volunteer hours; organized 54 activities and raised and donated over 2 million Baht to the charity and community programs this year.
The following are part of JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa's Serve 360 initiatives programs and efforts: The annual activities such as beach planting, mangrove restoration, beach clean-up, coral planting, reef clean-up, blood donation, road safety education & helmet donation, disaster relief fund, the 10th Mai Khao marine turtles release during Songkran Festival, the 14th Mai Khao Marine turtle fun run and half marathon, ‘Skip the Straw’ initiative program, partnered with Generation Water company on ‘Save Water, Drink Air’ project as well as reduce the plastic bottles by using glass bottle containers; partnered with the LightBlue Environmental Consulting company to implement on the ‘Food Waste Prevention’ program; the seafood & local sourcing and sustainability with the local community; the use of local handicraft product on ‘Welcome Bracelet’ project, Yaowawit Pre Vocational Hospitality School – the pre-vocational academies, programs designed by Marriott International’s and the office of Vocational Education Commission just to name a few. #Serve360
