Rayee Beach Phuket: Rocky Shore and Reef near Kamala

Rayee Beach lies below Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort, around the headland south of Kamala’s main bay. Its rocky, coral seabed makes it a poor choice for ordinary swimming. The reef and the resort’s Marine Biological Center give this stretch of coast its particular interest.

Rayee Beach is a sandy and rocky shoreline south of Kamala Beach on Phuket’s west coast, below Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort. Roadside parking is available behind the beach. It mainly suits resort guests and visitors interested in the reef, with hotel facilities and guided marine activities subject to the resort’s arrangements.

Sand, shade and a rocky seabed

Trees shade parts of the sand, while large boulders interrupt the shoreline. Views extend across the water towards Kamala’s hills. The sandy edge can look inviting, but rocks and coral in the shallows make the water entry quite different from the beach itself.

Rayee is more suited to a short look along the coast than a full day of swimming and beach activities. For guests staying at the Hyatt, the shore is a convenient part of the resort’s surroundings.

Road access and parking

The coastal road runs directly behind Rayee Beach, with roadside space for parking. The beach can be approached from this road without treating the hotel as the entrance.

Use available roadside space, leave entrances clear and follow any signs or restrictions in place.

Swimming and snorkelling

Rayee is not recommended as an ordinary swimming beach. The rocky, coral seabed makes casual wading and water entry awkward, particularly when the tide is low.

The reef gives snorkellers a reason to visit. Hyatt offers guided house-reef snorkelling through its marine team, subject to tides and weather. Arrangements, suitable entry points and current conditions should be checked directly with the team. Avoid standing on coral or walking across living reef.

Facilities at the Hyatt

Restaurants, toilets and showers are available at Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort behind the beach. These are hotel facilities, and beach access does not establish permission to use them. Non-residents should confirm the relevant arrangements with the resort.

For a beach outing centred on swimming, independent restaurants and services along the shore, nearby Kamala Beach is the more practical choice.

Learning about the reef

Hyatt’s Marine Biological Center adds an educational reason to visit this part of Kamala. Its activities explain local corals, marine life and conservation, with learning sessions and guided shore or reef activities.

An arranged visit to the centre can be more rewarding than coming solely for the beach. Check current sessions, charges and non-resident participation with the resort before travelling.

Rayee Beach FAQs

Is Rayee Beach good for swimming?

It is a poor choice for ordinary swimming because rocks and coral make water entry awkward. Kamala’s main beach offers more suitable sandy sections, subject to sea conditions.

Can visitors snorkel at Rayee Beach?

Hyatt offers guided snorkelling at its house reef. Tide, weather and participation arrangements need checking with the resort’s marine team.

Is Rayee worth a separate beach trip?

Its strongest appeal is for Hyatt guests or visitors arranging a marine-centre or reef activity. Kamala Beach is more practical for a conventional beach day.
